Common Poppy

Common Poppies, sometimes called Field Poppies, are a very striking scarlet colour. They are often seen in great numbers in cornfields or on road verges.

There are four crinkly petals with a black centre. The fruit is a distinctive pepperpot shape.

The stem is very bristly and the leaves are narrow and deeply divided.

This plant is used in herbal medicine for coughs and throat infections.
